High
Definition or “HD” is in the motion picture
industry. Motion pictures have traditionally been filmed on
35mm film. However, with the advent of HD, many recent motion
pictures have been "filmed" with High Definition
videotape. The first high-profile HD feature was George
Lucas' Star Wars, Episode II. Shot totally in 24p High
Definition - 61 days in 5 countries in the rain and desert,
averaging 36 setups a day without a single camera problem.
"The picture quality is indistinguishable from film," Lucas
has said.
HD
also allows any production company with a little talent to
compete with the big boys. Independent films are at an all
time high with plenty of demand for more. With the opportunity
of producing full-feature theatrical productions at attainable
HD prices, ViaMedia is in pre-production on several projects.
